Favorite Find

The exotic allure of this moroccan lamp beckoned to me from a bottom shelf at the local Goodwill.

A funny little story that goes with this find ... while toting this to the register a man asked me what exactly it was and was surprised to discover its true purpose, since he had thought is was a bird cage!

Favorite Find

I couldn't believe my luck when I happened upon this lovely set of 6 wooden owl coasters with their own little stand at my local Goodwill store.

Inspired/Dream Job

You can probably tell from the long list to your right that I am big on reading other peoples amazing blogs; one such blogger would be Elsie of A Beautiful Mess.

*photo of Elsie, her own*

She has a great blog full of loveliness and inspiration. She also has one of my dream jobs running her own shop, Red Velvet. You can get caught up on the history of Red Velvet here and be inspired by the revamp/reopening here. The shop not only offers amazing home and clothing goods, vintage being the focus, but is part sweetshop too!
I highly recommend checking out the blog for more.

Weekend Plans

I am hoping to sleep in a bit, (though still too early for most) due to my internal clock set on 5:00 during the week I'm doing great to make it to 7:30 or 8:00 am.

Do a bit of Saturday thrifting at some local spots.

Anxiously awaiting a trip to see this incredible movie on Sunday.

Also, hoping to get all of my Thanksgiving cooking plans in order.

Favorite Finds

I absolutely LOVE strolling flea markets, checking out thrift shops and plundering a Goodwill store. I really enjoy the "treasure hunt" even though it does require one to have an open mind, a bit of patience and a willingness to take your time. Some days you leave empty handed; but other times you come across that special something that was just waiting for you to discover it!

I have decide to take some of my best discoveries and feature one a week in a new post series called Favorite Find.

So, this week is a recent discovery from a local charity shop. The various shades of green in this lovely knit throw caught my eye and the herringbone pattern grabbed my attention, but it was the $0.99 price tag that stole my heart.

Belated Halloween Baking

I offer my apologies for this post being extremely belated. This little baking project was done at Halloween and we are almost at Thanksgiving, but since the outcome could be done anytime during Autumn it still counts.
I am a big fan of the cupcake and when I found this post, I decided to give the idea a go for Howloween.

I think think the outcome was a hoot!

Fall Reading

The chill of Fall weather makes me want to cozy up with a good book when I have some free time and these are the books on my current reading list ...

Fiber = Delicious?

I NEVER would have thought that I would actually become a fan of something boasting fiber, but these little bars are majorly delicious!! They are like a chocolatey, peanut buttery, rice krispie treat with good for you fiber hidden somewhere amongst the goodness and the extra bonus is they're only 90 calories.

So, next time you need a quick snack on the go ... grab one!

How To Be Alone

I am a single girl ... have been for quite some time. As such one is labeled as alone but more often tends to be mistaken for lonely, though they are not synonymous. I sometimes get asked about how it feels being single and my response is always truthful; sometimes being alone can have its moments of loneliness but mostly I have come to relish the joys and freedom that comes with the independence. I recently discovered this video that discusses the "art of being alone" and it covers the matter perfectly. EVERYONE (alone or not) should watch this video because we all end up on our own at some point, even if just for a few hours a day.

SO Excited

I have long loved the Indie Craft Experience event in Atlanta, GA and now my very own "big city" of Greenville, SC will now be hosting the Indie Craft Parade!! I definitely plan to attend the 1st annual event next month and so excited that an amazing juncture like this is finally arriving to this area.
So, if you live anywhere in the not-too-far vicinity go here for more details.

New Tunes

This is Janelle Monae, she has an amazing sound ... a new take on old school, like a sort of female James Brown. Anywho, this is her music video "Tightrope" featuring Big Boi (you remember Outkast right?) and you should check it out.

How to Train Your Dragon

I have always been a kid @ heart but this movie has been getting rave reviews for all ages. So, I must admit that I really want to go see this one, in 3D of course!!

Auntie

So, BIG NEWS just very late ... as of March 5, 2010 I am officially an AUNTIE to the most adorable nephew, Brayden Andrew Vaughn.

I was lucky enough to be in TN for his birth, but just barely, luckily my parents and I decided to travel at night instead wait until morning. It only took 2 hrs of labor for him to make his debut but because he was a month earlier than expected he had to spend about a week in the NICU. However, the Little Man is all settled at home now and growing a little more (as you can see his is still swimming a bit in newborn clothes) everyday.

PS: This is the outfit I got for him the day after he was born via Target!!

FANTASTIC

I really wanted to see Fantastic Mr. Fox when it came out, but couldn't find anyone interested in going and never found the time to go solo.

So, all the fantastic things I keep reading about it around blogland has got me anxiously awaiting the March 23rd release to DVD.

If I Had $250 To Drop

then I would take a week off work this summer to go to Bonaroo!!!

An amazing music festival in Manchester, Tennessee that has an incredible lineup for 2010 ...

Kings of Leon, The Avett Brothers, She & Him, Phoenix, Regina Spektor, Norah Jones, Jay-Z, Weezer, Ok Go, Blitzen Trapper, The Flaming Lips, Dave Matthews, Zac Brown etc.

A whole year's worth of live concerts from really great artists/bands in just one week would be so worth it ... now just to find someone adventurous enough to join me.

She & Him Volume 2

If you absolutely adore her

then you are sure to love them

and their latest debuts March 23rd

check out the first release here.

Addiction

The lovely couple for whom I often house sit went to Hawaii earlier this month and gifted me with these Mauna Loa Dark Chocolate Macadamias. Oh my goodness !! are these things so delicious that since opening the bag they've become my addiction.

Melody Gardot

I recently discovered Melody Gardot and her divine music; thanks to the bit CBS Sunday Morning did on her amazing story. Following an accident during college (she was hit by a car while riding her bicycle) Melody suffered some serious injuries including to her brain that seriously effected her speech, memory and left her hypersensitive to light/sound.
Once attempts to heal via therapy/drugs failed, she picked up music and slowly began to heal while finding her incredible voice.

You can learn more about her story here and visit her website here.

Knappa

I really, really, really want this Knappa Pendant Lamp @ IKEA ... very modern and beautifully designed.
One would never guess it was such an awesome steal at only $30.00. I seriously want/need this thing!!

It Might Get Loud

I finally got around to renting this documentary (thank you redbox) and it was SO good! If you really love music, have any interest in the electric guitar or just like learning some of the history behind 3 rock legends; then this is a must-see movie.
I mean there is a "science" to getting the right sounds in music and those who understand that science, it is just amazing what they can do.

Also, I have to say that Jack White has some killer style and the movie has got me interested in his Raconteurs music too.

Hilarious

I know this commercial isn't really new but no matter how many times I watch, it still cracks me up ... love this kind of humor.

Vampire Weekend

I'm really digging the sound of this band. I might just have to purchase both their albums. If you want to check out the sound of their latest go here.

ps: my apologizes for the *ahem* language in this song, but man is it catchy :)

Going Postal

I really like to send snail-mail, especially when such a thing seems like a dying art in this technology obsessed age. So, I really LOVE a good stamp and was excited to check out all the new stamps for 2010. However, when I spotted these Abstract Expressionist stamps ... I am STOKED!!! They feature an amazing set of works from the likes of Mark Rothko, Jackson Pollock etc.

I am planning to buy a pane to keep and another to use on extra special mail. If you want them for yourself be sure to mark your calendar for their March 11th release date.
